Nigerian Army troops have successfully thwarted a planned attack on communities in Plateau State, neutralizing three bandits in the process, military authorities confirmed on Monday.

According to a statement released by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of Operation Safe Haven, the operation was conducted following credible intelligence about imminent attacks on Teng and Kayarda villages in Qua'an Pan Local Government Area.

"Troops of 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven made contact and neutralised three bandits, with others fleeing in the process," the statement read. The operation, which took place in the early hours of May 27, 2025, led to the recovery of significant weaponry.

The military recovered four AK-47 rifles, four AK-47 magazines, and 56 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition from the neutralized bandits. These items are currently in the custody of the troops.

Major Zhakom further stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the criminal syndicate and recover additional illicit weapons that might be in their possession.

This operation represents another successful intervention by security forces in the region, which has experienced recurring security challenges in recent years. The Nigerian Army continues to maintain vigilance in protecting vulnerable communities across Plateau State and neighboring regions.

Residents of the affected communities have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies for prompt action.
