Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have neutralized one bandit and recovered several arms and ammunition during operations in Taraba State, according to a statement released on Tuesday by Brigade spokesperson, Captain Oni Olubodunde.

The military has intensified its presence in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area following recent crises that resulted in significant loss of lives and property in the region.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on May 26, 2025, when troops on a fighting patrol in Kwanchi village encountered armed bandits. "Troops made contact with armed bandits and immediately engaged them in hot pursuit. In the course of this pursuit, one of the troops' motorcycles developed a fault and was temporarily secured in the village to enable the operation to continue," the statement explained.

Upon returning to retrieve the motorcycle, the troops discovered it was missing, which prompted an immediate raid operation. During the search, they encountered three policemen accompanied by a civilian identified as Alhaji Munga, who was questioned at the scene.

Further investigation led to contact with another individual, Alhaji Lamido, who allegedly had knowledge of the missing motorcycle's whereabouts. Alhaji Lamido informed the troops that while he was in Mutum Biyu, the motorcycle had been taken to Kudeh village near a riverbank.

"As they approached the location, they came under sudden gunfire from armed bandits. The troops immediately returned fire and engaged the criminals in a fierce encounter. The bandits fled in disarray, abandoning their position," Captain Olubodunde stated.

Items recovered during the operations include one dane gun, one locally fabricated pistol, and four motorcycles.

The Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift action, discipline, and commitment to the mission.

"This operation demonstrates our resolve to take the fight to criminal elements wherever they are hiding. The safety and security of citizens in Taraba State remain our top priority. I urge communities to continue supporting the Nigerian Army with credible information. Together, we will defeat every threat to peace in our society," Brigadier General Uwa stated.

The 6 Brigade Nigerian Army has reassured the people of Taraba State of its commitment to the complete eradication of all forms of criminality and banditry within the state. The military called on citizens to support ongoing operations by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.

These military efforts are part of the ongoing OPERATION LAFIYAN JAMAA, aimed at restoring peace and stability across Taraba State, which has witnessed several security challenges in recent times.
