The Nigerian Army has issued an official statement explaining the continued detention of 25-year-old Corporal Amina Sani Maidoki, emphasizing that her case is undergoing proper investigation following allegations of theft.

Maidoki was detained after Salamatu Faruk Yahaya, wife of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya (retd), reported that $50,000 had gone missing from her Abuja residence.

In a statement released by Lt Col Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the military emphasized that disciplinary measures within the Nigerian Army "are not arbitrary but governed by due process."

"The investigation into the matter is being conducted with the utmost regard for Corporal Maidoki's legal and human rights, and she continues to receive appropriate welfare in line with military standards," the statement read.

The Army categorically denied allegations of unlawful detention or denial of legal representation, describing such claims as "false and rendered simply to mislead the public and draw undue sentiments."

While acknowledging the concerns of Maidoki's family and the emotional toll of the situation, the statement affirmed that the Nigerian Army "remains open to lawful communication and engagement, provided such interactions align with the operational and investigative procedures currently in place."

The military institution further emphasized its commitment to respecting the rights of all accused personnel, regardless of who is involved, stating that "none of its personnel is above the law or exempt from military discipline."

The case has attracted public attention amid concerns about the length of Maidoki's detention and the circumstances surrounding the allegations against her.
