The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman, has made a passionate appeal for intensified efforts to combat child abuse and trafficking across the state as Nigeria marks Children's Day.

Speaking on Tuesday, Dr. Suleiman emphasized that all stakeholders must play critical roles in protecting children's rights and welfare, particularly government agencies, non-profit organizations, and human rights activists.

"Governments, non-profit organizations, and human rights activists must be actively involved whenever cases of child abuse or maltreatment are identified," he stated. "As custodians of the law, we must ensure that traffickers, abusers, and offenders face the full wrath of the law. This will serve as a deterrent to others."

The Speaker also directed his message to parents and guardians, urging them to provide love, care, and support to their children. He described children as "gifts from Almighty God" that should be treated with utmost love and concern.

"Parents must ensure children's basic needs are met and that they are not left to fend for themselves or sent far away without proper provisions," Dr. Suleiman advised.

He further emphasized the importance of community support for survivors of abuse, calling on families not to abandon victims of abuse or rape.

Dr. Suleiman highlighted the legislative efforts of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, noting that several child-centered bills have been passed and subsequently assented to by Governor Bala Mohammed.

"We remain committed to the welfare, protection, and support of children in Bauchi State. We will continue to collaborate and make laws that improve the living conditions of children in the state and across the country," he affirmed.

The Speaker's call comes at a crucial time when child protection issues continue to be a significant concern across Nigeria, with reports of abuse, trafficking, and exploitation affecting vulnerable children in various communities.
