Political analyst Mojeed Dahiru has delivered a damning verdict on the future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating categorically that Nigeria's former ruling party is on an irreversible path to extinction following what he described as a "mortal sin" committed during the 2023 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Dahiru analyzed the ongoing crisis within the PDP, which has intensified following a failed reconciliation meeting in Abuja where party members had hoped to resolve internal grievances.

"The PDP is a dying party. You see, the Bible says the wages of sin is death. So the PDP is dying because it committed a mortal sin in 2023," Dahiru stated emphatically. "When the PDP jettisoned zoning prior to the 2023 presidential election, when it was supposed to cede the ticket to the South, which was supposed to be its most consistent support base, and opted to pick a northerner, the PDP committed a mortal sin."

According to the analyst, this decision has effectively sealed the party's fate, with little hope of recovery before the next general elections. "That sin, the wages of that sin is death. I don't see PDP surviving as a party beyond 2027," he predicted.

Dahiru specifically pointed to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's candidacy as a critical factor in the party's decline. "When Atiku happened to the PDP, he developed a wicked problem... it was Atiku's submission that killed the PDP effectively. So what we can simply be doing is conducting its final rites of passage."

The analyst also addressed the role of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in the party's ongoing crisis. Wike, a prominent PDP figure, has been at loggerheads with the party leadership, with tensions escalating after the FCT Administration recently sealed the PDP National Secretariat over alleged non-payment of ground rent spanning 28 years.

"Wike would not have intended to be an undertaker [taking the PDP to its grave] but you see, there are causes and effects. To every action, there is equal opposite reaction. So the actions of the northern flank of the PDP, led by Atiku and others, is the reaction we are seeing by Wike," Dahiru explained.

The analyst concluded with a grim prognosis: "These actions and inactions will invariably lead to the final burial of the PDP."

The PDP, which ruled Nigeria for 16 consecutive years (1999-2015), has faced mounting challenges since losing power to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The recent sealing of its national headquarters and internal leadership struggles have further complicated the party's efforts to position itself as a viable opposition ahead of future elections.
