No fewer than seven persons have lost their lives in a tragic accident involving a truck loaded with cement along the Katsina-Ala-Zaki Biam Road in Benue State over the weekend.

According to eyewitness accounts, the truck, carrying approximately 600 bags of cement, was traveling at high speed toward Zaki Biam when the driver hit a pothole, lost control, and the vehicle subsequently overturned.

"The cement truck was on top speed while heading towards Zaki Biam when the driver hit a pothole and lost control. The vehicle tumbled over, leaving seven persons dead and some others injured," an eyewitness reported.

The eyewitness further stated that the quick intervention of locals saved the lives of six occupants who sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt.

Steve Ayodele, the Benue State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident, stating: "The accident happened along Katsina Ala-Zaki Biam road around 11 am on Saturday, and it involved 15 people, seven were killed, six injured and two without injury."

The sector commander also confirmed that debris from the ill-fated truck has been cleared from the road to allow for the free flow of traffic.

This tragic incident adds to the growing concerns about road safety in Benue State and highlights the dangers posed by poor road conditions and speeding on Nigerian highways.
