The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old housewife, Rabi'a Labaran, for allegedly stabbing her co-wife to death following a domestic dispute in Daura town.
The incident occurred on May 24, 2025, behind Dadi Primary School in the Sabon Gari area of Daura, where the suspect allegedly murdered 30-year-old Zainab Lawal during a heated argument that escalated into violence.
According to police reports, the husband of both women, Nasir Yusuf, returned home from the market around 11:00 p.m. to discover Zainab's lifeless body with multiple stab wounds. He immediately alerted authorities, prompting a police team led by the Divisional Police Officer to rush to the scene.
The victim was transported to the Federal Medical Centre, Daura, where medical personnel confirmed her death.
During interrogation, Rabi'a Labaran reportedly confessed to the killing, claiming that a misunderstanding between her and the deceased turned physical, ultimately resulting in the fatal stabbing.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, confirmed the arrest and condemned the act in strong terms. He urged members of the public to avoid domestic violence and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
"Disputes should be resolved through lawful channels. Taking the law into one's hands only deepens the crisis and erodes the rule of law," the Commissioner stated.
The police command has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice in the case. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect remains in custody pending further legal action.
This incident highlights the persistent issue of domestic violence in Nigerian households and the need for proper conflict resolution mechanisms within polygamous marriages.
