The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two prime suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a young woman whose burnt body was discovered in the Gangare area of Mile 12 last Saturday.
According to police investigations, the victim, who hailed from Nasarawa State, was allegedly killed on the orders of her former boyfriend following a relationship breakup. The incident had initially sparked concerns about potential ethnic conflicts, but authorities have clarified that the murder was not ethnically motivated.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrests and provided details about the ongoing investigation. "Facts from the preliminary investigation clearly revealed that she was from Nasarawa State and not a Yoruba woman, as was initially speculated," he stated.
The police spokesperson further explained that the murder stemmed from a "protracted dispute between her and her now-at-large boyfriend, who was determined to force her back into a relationship after their breakup." This led to the boyfriend allegedly conspiring with others to ambush, attack, and kill the victim before setting her body ablaze.
"The killing of the young woman was a clearly premeditated act of conspiracy and cold-blooded murder, which must be condemned by all. There was no element of blasphemy by the victim prior to her gruesome killing," Hundeyin emphasized.
The two suspects are currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where they are assisting detectives in efforts to apprehend the victim's ex-boyfriend and other accomplices who remain at large.
Authorities have assured residents that there is no tension or threat of reprisal attacks between any ethnic groups in Ketu, Mile 12, or any other part of Lagos State. "Lagosians are encouraged to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities without fear," the police statement read.
The Lagos State Police Command has promised to provide timely updates as the investigation progresses and urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic.
