Armed bandits launched an attack on Karakkai village in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Sunday evening, resulting in injuries to three residents while several others are feared abducted.
The attack, which occurred around 6:40 p.m., prompted villagers to mobilize in self-defense. According to reports, the locals engaged the assailants in a prolonged gunfight, eventually forcing the bandits to retreat with suspected gunshot wounds.
Despite the brave resistance from the villagers, three community members sustained gunshot injuries during the confrontation. An unconfirmed number of residents are believed to have been abducted by the fleeing bandits.
In response to the attack, troops from Operation Fansan Yamma were swiftly deployed to the area. Military personnel provided immediate medical assistance to the injured victims and have since intensified security operations throughout the region.
Security forces are currently conducting search and rescue operations to locate and free the missing individuals. The attack is part of a troubling pattern of banditry that has plagued rural communities across Zamfara State in recent years.
