Two vigilante members were killed and several others sustained injuries following an attack by armed bandits on Birchi community in Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State on Saturday night.

According to reports, the bandits stormed the community with intentions of carrying out abductions, but were met with fierce resistance from local vigilantes and residents, forcing them to flee without taking any hostages.

Security analyst Bakatsine confirmed the incident in a post on his official X handle on Sunday, stating: "Last night, bandits stormed Birchi community in Kurfi LGA of Katsina State. In a fierce resistance, two vigilante members were killed and several people sustained injuries. Despite the violence, the attackers were forced to flee without making any abductions."

The attack represents another incident in the ongoing security challenges facing Katsina State, where armed bandits have repeatedly targeted rural communities for kidnappings and raids.

As of the time of this report, authorities in Katsina State have yet to release an official statement regarding the attack.

The incident highlights the growing role of community vigilante groups in Nigeria's northwestern states, where they often serve as first responders to security threats in areas with limited police presence.

Katsina, the home state of President Bola Tinubu, has witnessed numerous bandit attacks in recent months despite increased security operations in the region.
