Four members of the Community Watch Corps (CWC) were gruesomely murdered in an ambush by suspected bandits in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State on Saturday afternoon. The attackers also set their commander, identified as Sunusi, ablaze along with the patrol vehicle.

According to security analyst Bakatsine, who disclosed the incident on his official X handle on Saturday night, the CWC operatives were from Radda and Charanchi Local Government Areas and were on duty in the volatile region when they were intercepted by the armed assailants.

"This afternoon, bandits ambushed CWC operatives in Matazu LGA, killing four brave officers and burning their commander, Sunusi, alive along with their vehicle. These operatives served in Radda, Charanchi LGA, Katsina State," Bakatsine wrote.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities in Katsina State have yet to officially comment on the attack, which represents another deadly incident in the state's ongoing battle against banditry.

The Community Watch Corps is a local security outfit established to complement the efforts of conventional security agencies in combating the rising insecurity in the northwestern region of Nigeria.

This attack comes amid increasing concerns about the deteriorating security situation in Katsina and other northwestern states, where armed bandits continue to terrorize communities, conducting kidnappings for ransom and violent raids on villages.

The brutal killing of these security operatives highlights the dangers faced by local security personnel working to protect their communities from armed groups operating in the region.
