The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of its 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting previously scheduled for May 27, 2025, at the party's National Secretariat in Abuja.

According to an official notice signed by PDP's National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, the postponement is to create room for the reconciliation committee headed by former Senate President Bukola Saraki to complete its assignment of resolving internal conflicts within the party.

"The postponement is to allow the Sen. Bukola Saraki's Reconciliation Committee to complete its assignment of resolving some internal conflicts necessary to have a peaceful NEC meeting," the notice stated.

Anyanwu further clarified that a new date for the NEC meeting would be announced in accordance with the PDP Constitution 2017 as amended and the Electoral Act, 2022. He also warned that any notice of NEC meeting signed by the Deputy National Secretary in the guise of Acting National Secretary should be considered "illegal, unauthorized, and should be disregarded."

This development comes amid escalating tensions within the party, particularly following the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike's recent announcement that he was withdrawing from all agreements with the party leadership meant to end the ongoing crisis.

Wike, who claimed to have been fighting for PDP's survival since 1998, accused some party leaders of fueling the crisis, which prompted his decision to withdraw from previously reached agreements.

The postponement highlights the deepening internal conflicts within Nigeria's main opposition party as it struggles to maintain unity ahead of future electoral contests. Political analysts view the Saraki-led reconciliation efforts as crucial for the party's stability and relevance in Nigeria's political landscape.

Despite the current challenges, some party leaders remain optimistic. Senator Abba Moro was recently quoted saying that "PDP is not collapsing" and that "Nigeria won't become a one-party state," indicating that efforts to resolve the party's internal issues continue.
