The Katsina State Police Command has successfully thwarted a kidnapping operation in Malumfashi Local Government Area, resulting in the neutralization of a notorious bandit and the rescue of five victims.

According to a statement issued by the Command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiqe, police operatives responded to a distress call received at approximately 10:15 PM on May 22, 2025, reporting that armed bandits had attacked Unguwar Lado and Karo villages in Malumfashi LGA.

"Led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), a team of police operatives responded promptly to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel," DSP Sadiqe stated.

During the operation, the police successfully neutralized Audu Kushin, identified as a notorious bandit from Tsamiyar Maigoro village. Five kidnapped victims who sustained injuries during the attack were rescued and immediately transported to General Hospital Malumfashi for medical attention.

The police spokesperson further revealed that efforts are being intensified to apprehend the remaining suspects who fled the scene during the confrontation.

This successful operation comes amid increasing concerns about banditry and kidnapping in Nigeria's northwestern states, with Katsina being one of the most affected. The prompt response by the police demonstrates ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat these criminal activities in the region.

Residents of the affected communities have expressed relief following the police intervention, though security concerns remain high in the area as operations continue to track down the escaped bandits.
