Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has categorically denied reports suggesting he plans to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing such claims as "fake news" and a product of "yellow journalism."
In a statement released on Sunday through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the APC, the party under which he was elected to office.
"We read online wherein they alleged that Governor Hyacinth Alia is plotting to leave the APC amidst the brewing crisis in the Benue APC. For the unsuspecting public, the story is not true and is typical of the yellow journalism practices by some online newspapers," the statement read.
The governor's office further emphasized the implausibility of such defection rumors, particularly at a time when opposition governors are joining the APC due to the policies and performance of the party under President Tinubu's leadership.
"At a time opposition Governors are joining the APC due to the policies and performance of the party under President Tinubu, it is laughable for anyone to suggest the Governor is contemplating defection from the party he is sponsoring in Benue," the statement continued.
The statement also refuted claims of internal crisis within the Benue State chapter of the APC. According to the governor's spokesperson, the party under Benjamin Omale's leadership maintains a cordial and effective working relationship with the governor.
"The APC leadership in the State is in no crisis. The party has been performing its functions effectively at both state and national levels, as witnessed during the recent APC Summit in Abuja," the statement added.
This clarification comes amid speculation about political realignments in Benue State, with some reports suggesting growing tensions within the state's APC chapter. However, the governor's office has firmly dismissed such narratives, insisting on the unity and stability of the party's structure in the state.
