Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the elongation of the terminal salary grade level for bursars in public secondary schools across the state from Grade Level 14 to Grade Level 15, effective May 1, 2025.

The announcement was made by Mrs. Rhoda Ojo, Chairman of the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), during a meeting with various education sector labour unions and associations in Ado Ekiti.

According to Mrs. Ojo, the career elongation will specifically benefit degree holders and Higher National Diploma (HND) holders who possess Post Graduate Diploma certificates in relevant fields. The policy change is part of the Oyebanji administration's broader education reforms aimed at enhancing the quality of education in the state.

"This approval is part of various education policies and programmes of the present administration aimed at fostering high standards of teaching and learning driven by qualitative and motivated personnel, as well as motivation for supporting staff in public schools," Mrs. Ojo stated.

The TESCOM chairman urged education workers to reciprocate the government's gesture by diligently performing their duties to promote the administration's shared prosperity agenda.

Mr. Michael Boluwade, Permanent Secretary of the Commission, emphasized the importance of responsibility, stating that "to whom much is given, much is expected." He cautioned against truancy and submitting unreliable reports to the commission, adding that staff on extended medical leave should officially report to the Commission for necessary actions and support.

The meeting was attended by representatives from key education sector unions including the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASSUS), All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), and Conference of Bursars of Secondary Schools (COBUSS).

Comrade Bamidele Adeola, representing the State Chairman of ASSUS, Comrade Sola Adigun, expressed appreciation to Governor Oyebanji for prioritizing the welfare of both teaching and non-teaching staff in the state.

Similarly, Comrade Joseph Adeola, representing the NUT Chairman Mr. Lawrence Egbeyemi, pledged continued support for the government's developmental efforts and worker welfare initiatives.

Other union leaders present at the meeting included the State Chairman of Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), Comrade Toyin Fagbamila; President of ANCOPSS, Mr. Akinbode Oke; and the State President of COBUSS, Comrade Kayode Ojo.
