The Edo State Police Command has apprehended a 22-year-old suspect, Endurance Oviojie, in connection with armed robbery, kidnapping, and cultism activities during a raid in Benin City. The operation, which took place on May 13, 2025, resulted in the escape of four other suspects.
According to the Command's Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, who addressed newsmen on Sunday in Benin City, the arrest was carried out by operatives of the Anti Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Unit of the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID).
"While the suspect was arrested, four other suspects later identified as Clinton, Jeff, Mike, and Emmanuel alias Slim Khalifa—surnames yet unknown—escaped through the fence to neighboring compounds," Yamu stated.
The police spokesperson revealed that several items were recovered during the raid, which took place off Country Home Road in Benin City. These items include:
- One English Beretta pistol
- One locally fabricated pistol
- One ammunition
- 18 live cartridges
- Five handsets of various makes
- One electronic tablet
- Charms and illicit drugs
Additionally, four unregistered Mercedes-Benz vehicles were recovered: a black C350, a gray C300, a gray GLA 250, and a red GLE 350.
Yamu confirmed that the arrested suspect has been charged to court for prosecution, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing gang members.
This arrest comes amid increasing concerns about criminal activities in the state, with authorities intensifying efforts to combat armed robbery, kidnapping, and cultism in the region.
