Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the emerging opposition coalition as 'confused' over its potential leadership structure.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Olayinka appeared to mock the coalition, particularly regarding the possibility of former People's Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar emerging as the flag bearer with Peter Obi as running mate.

"Confused Coalition: Atiku as presidential candidate. Any Obi (even if na Obioma or Obiageli) as running mate. Issorite," Olayinka wrote in what observers describe as a clear attempt to ridicule the opposition's efforts.

The opposition coalition, which includes Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has been holding meetings to strategize ahead of the 2027 presidential election. On Tuesday night, the trio and other stakeholders reportedly met to make significant decisions about the coalition's future.

El-Rufai had previously confirmed the meeting, boldly stating that the coalition aims to "return President Bola Tinubu to Lagos State in 2027" – suggesting their intention to defeat the incumbent in the next presidential election.

Sources indicate that the coalition is currently searching for a political party to adopt as its platform, with reports suggesting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a potential option, though this remains unconfirmed.

Meanwhile, the PDP Senate Caucus has reportedly stated that the party is "big enough for coalition," addressing Atiku, El-Rufai, Peter Obi, and others involved in the new political movement.

This development comes as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various political figures positioning themselves for what promises to be a highly contested presidential race.
