The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a housewife, Zaliha Shuaibu, for allegedly killing her co-wife's three-month-old baby by feeding him acid in Malari village, Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to a statement issued by ASP Mansir Hassan, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kaduna State, the tragic incident occurred on May 13, 2025, inside the family compound shared by the suspect, her husband, and the baby's mother, Maryam Ibrahim.

The police report indicates that Maryam had briefly left her infant alone in the room to use the bathroom. Upon her return, she found her baby in the arms of her co-wife, Zaliha. After Zaliha handed the child back to Maryam, the mother immediately noticed that the baby was in distress, with foam coming out of his mouth and a visible injury on his neck.

"The child was rushed to a nearby hospital in the village but was pronounced dead on arrival," the police statement revealed.

Following the incident, the Divisional Police Officer of Soba Division quickly mobilized a team that arrested the suspect. During interrogation, Zaliha Shuaibu reportedly confessed to feeding the baby acid with the help of her husband's younger brother, Lawal Muhammad, who is currently at large.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that Zaliha confessed it was Lawal who provided the acid used to carry out the heinous act.

The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, CP Rabiu Muhammad, has assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted and all individuals connected to the crime will face justice. He emphasized that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect, Lawal Muhammad, who will face the full wrath of the law once captured.
