Muslims across the 23 local government areas from the three senatorial districts of Kaduna State observed prayers at their different mosques on Friday, marking the commencement of Eid-el-Kabir celebrations amid tight security measures.

The usually bustling streets of Kaduna city wore a deserted look as residents focused on religious observances. Popular thoroughfares including Ahmadu Bello Way, College Road, and Stadium Roundabout were notably empty, with shops and business centers closed for the holiday.

Security Measures and Peaceful Atmosphere

Security operatives were strategically positioned at various worship centers across the state, maintaining vigilance to prevent any potential disruptions. The heightened security presence contributed to a peaceful atmosphere that allowed worshippers to celebrate without fear.

Many residents expressed relief at the peaceful nature of the celebrations, noting it as one of the most cherished aspects of this year's festival. The absence of security incidents was particularly appreciated in a state that has faced security challenges in recent times.

Celebration Amid Economic Hardship

Despite the festive mood, several worshippers acknowledged celebrating under difficult economic circumstances. Mallam Muhammadu Abdullah, a motorcycle mechanic, shared his perspective: "Although I have had no business since the beginning of this month, seeing today is a great privilege and opportunity I will never take for granted as I continue to worship my God always."

Similarly, Hajiya Sadautu Lukeman, who lost her husband last year, expressed gratitude for witnessing another celebration despite her challenging circumstances. "I lost my husband, our breadwinner. Since then, my children have been out of school because there's no one to pay their school fees, as I have nothing doing. Although I have nothing to celebrate, good health is a great privilege," she told BenriNews.

Charity and Community Spirit

The spirit of giving was evident throughout the celebration. Street beggars, who had positioned themselves at mosque entrances, reported receiving generous alms from worshippers. One beggar, Salisu Adamu, shared his experience: "How I wish Sallah continues for a month. I have realized over N10,000 within one hour, unlike ordinary days when I cannot make up to N1,000. People are giving alms cheerfully."

Children were observed sharing food and drinks with neighbors and loved ones, embodying the festival's emphasis on community and generosity. The exchange of pleasantries among worshippers further highlighted the themes of love and kindness central to the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
