Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Sam Amadi, has advised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to emulate Labour Party's Peter Obi's leadership style ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Amadi urged Atiku to shed what he described as "excessive royalty" in his approach to politics and public engagement.

"Atiku could be President. He is not really bad. But one thing he needs to cure is excessive 'royalty'. He should emulate @PeterObi," Amadi stated.

The former NERC boss, who also serves as Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, emphasized that Atiku should present himself "as much normal as a professional or a business leader, not an Emir or Ooni or Obi," adding that "Nigeria is not an emirate, or a kingdom."

Amadi's comments come as political figures begin positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential race. His advice suggests a preference for Peter Obi's more approachable leadership style, which resonated with many Nigerians during the 2023 elections.

Atiku Abubakar, who has contested for Nigeria's presidency multiple times, most recently in the 2023 general elections, has yet to respond to Amadi's comments.

Political analysts view these early exchanges as indicators of the shifting alliances and positioning that will characterize Nigerian politics as the country moves toward another election cycle.
