The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has strongly condemned the recent endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.
In a statement released on Saturday, PRP National Chairman, Mallam Falalu Bello, described the endorsement as "a desperate power grab" rather than an expression of genuine democratic will.
The criticism comes after the Progressive Governors Forum and the National Assembly publicly endorsed President Tinubu for a second term during the APC National Summit held last Thursday.
Bello argued that the endorsement exposes the APC's attempt to maintain power through "orchestrated means rather than the genuine voice of the Nigerian people."
"Power is not held by tactics alone but sustained by the people's trust and belief," the PRP chairman stated, adding that "even the most formidable political machinery crumbles when the people's confidence is lost."
He further emphasized that while Tinubu's political machinery and endorsements may appear strong, they cannot silence "the cries of the masses suffering under hardships."
"The people's disillusionment is palpable and when citizens whisper, 'This is not what we voted for,' it signals a fundamental disconnect between leadership and the governed," Bello remarked.
The PRP chairman characterized the APC's endorsement as "a classic case of a desperate power grab—an attempt to cement dominance through endorsements and political theatre rather than delivery of genuine democratic dividends."
Bello urged both the APC and President Tinubu to understand that democracy extends beyond endorsements to delivering tangible services to the Nigerian people. He warned that any attempt to undermine fundamental democratic principles through desperation "is doomed to fail."
This development highlights growing political tensions as parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties increasingly vocal about the current administration's performance.
