Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved the relaxation of the curfew imposed on the communities of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun following improvements in the security situation in the area.
According to a statement released by Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, the decision comes after observing a near total return of peace to the affected areas. The governor also considered the upcoming Eid El Kabir festival in making this adjustment.
The new curfew hours will run from 9:00pm to 5:00am daily, beginning on Sunday, May 25, 2025. This represents a significant relaxation from the previous restriction which had been in place from 6:00pm to 6:00am.
The curfew was initially imposed earlier this year in response to communal clashes between the three towns, which had raised security concerns in the state.
While relaxing the restrictions, Governor Adeleke urged residents to maintain restraint and cooperation, warning that the curfew will remain in force until complete peace is confirmed in the area.
The governor also issued a stern warning to the traditional rulers of the three communities, emphasizing that they must ensure their subjects do not disrupt public peace.
"Any traditional ruler whose subject is caught being a clog in the wheel of achieving total peace will be made to face the wrath of the law," the statement read.
Adeleke commended the three towns and other stakeholders for the peace and harmony currently taking shape, encouraging them to maintain the positive development.
To ensure continued security, the Governor has directed joint security forces comprising the Army, Police, DSS, and Civil Defence to maintain round-the-clock surveillance in the communities.
"Security agencies must continue 24-hour monitoring to ensure that peace is sustained in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun," the statement concluded.
