Two persons were killed and three others injured following a violent clash between Iso Bendeghe and Boje communities in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State on Monday morning.
According to eyewitness James Ben, the victims were attacked while working on their farms. The deadly confrontation stems from a long-standing dispute over land ownership between the neighboring communities.
"Two persons were killed while three others were injured. Those injured are currently receiving treatment at a medical facility," Ben stated. "The people are calling on the government and security agencies for intervention to prevent further escalation of the situation."
When contacted for comment, the Chairman of Boki Local Government Area, Eti-Eka Beatric Nyiam, declined to speak on the matter. Similarly, the state Commissioner of Police, Olusegun Omosanyin, did not respond to inquiries about the incident.
History of Land Disputes in the Region
This latest violence highlights the persistent issue of land disputes in Cross River State, which have occasionally resulted in deadly confrontations between communities. Local sources indicate that the conflict between Iso Bendeghe and Boje has remained unresolved for years despite previous interventions.
Security experts have repeatedly called for more proactive measures from both state and federal authorities to address the root causes of these land-related conflicts before they escalate into violence.
As of press time, no arrests have been reported in connection with the killings, and residents remain concerned about possible retaliatory attacks.
