Armed bandits have launched a violent attack on Dogon Maje community in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting several residents and leaving four others injured.
The attack, which occurred on Thursday night, saw the gunmen storm the village under the cover of darkness, targeting men, women, and children in what appears to be the latest in a series of violent incidents plaguing the region.
According to security analyst Bakatsine, who disclosed the incident via his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday night, the assailants conducted a coordinated raid on the community.
"Last night, bandits attacked Dogon Maje community in Tsafe LGA, Zamfara State. They injured four and abducted several people including men, women and children during the invasion," Bakatsine wrote.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of abducted persons remains unclear, and there has been no official statement from security agencies or the Zamfara State government regarding the incident.
This attack comes amid ongoing security challenges in Zamfara State, which has been a hotspot for banditry and kidnapping activities in recent years. The state government has implemented various measures to combat these security threats, including efforts to reduce other societal challenges such as maternal mortality rates.
In related developments across northern Nigeria, security forces have recently intensified operations against bandits, with troops reportedly storming hideouts in Plateau State and foiling attacks in neighboring Katsina State.
Residents of communities in bandit-prone areas continue to live in fear as these attacks persist despite government and security agencies' efforts to curb the menace.
