The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a stern warning to motorists who violate traffic laws in Abuja, threatening to impound vehicles and prosecute offenders.

According to a statement released by Abdulateef Bello, Director of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), drivers caught driving against traffic or violating traffic lights in the nation's capital will face severe consequences.

"The motoring public is hereby warned that henceforth, anyone caught in violation of these traffic offences will have their vehicles impounded and be arraigned before a Mobile Court for prosecution and penalty administration," the statement read in part.

Bello emphasized that the FCT Road Transport Regulations 2023 explicitly prohibits such traffic violations, signaling a renewed commitment to enforcing road safety measures in the capital city.

In a related development, the FCTA has announced plans to install Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras across roads and streets in the Federal Capital Territory. This initiative aims to enhance security and improve the monitoring of traffic offences throughout Abuja.

The administration's crackdown on traffic violations comes as part of broader efforts to maintain order and safety on Abuja's increasingly congested roads. Motorists are advised to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to avoid penalties and the inconvenience of vehicle impoundment.
