Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has held a meeting with Rauf Aregbesola, the former governor of Osun State and estranged ally of President Bola Tinubu.

The meeting, which took place on Friday at Aregbesola's residence, was confirmed by Atiku himself through a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account where he shared a video of the encounter.

"Breakfast time at the residence of the former Governor of Osun State, Engr Rauf Aregbesola," Atiku wrote in his post.

This meeting comes amid Atiku's ongoing efforts to form a formidable opposition coalition aimed at challenging President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. Earlier this week, on Tuesday night, the former Vice President met with Peter Obi, the Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, and Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State.

El-Rufai, confirming the Tuesday meeting, stated that "serious issues were discussed" and expressed confidence that their coalition would "retire Tinubu to Lagos in 2027."

The meeting with Aregbesola is particularly significant given his history with President Tinubu. Aregbesola was once a close ally of Tinubu but their relationship deteriorated during the build-up to the 2023 presidential election. This falling out between the two political figures could potentially strengthen Atiku's coalition-building strategy.

Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) appears to be consolidating support for President Tinubu's second term bid. Reports indicate that APC stakeholders have already endorsed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, with the Presidency stating that the endorsement came after a thorough assessment of his performance.

As political alignments continue to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections, these meetings signal intensifying political activities and strategic positioning by key political figures across Nigeria's political landscape.
