Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and several other prominent Nigerian politicians have converged in Ilesa, Osun State, for the coronation ceremony of Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup as the new Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Ajimoko II.

Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general elections, arrived at Akure Airport in neighboring Ondo State on Friday morning ahead of the ceremony. According to reports, he was received by various stakeholders upon his arrival.

The coronation ceremony is taking place at the Obokungbusi Hall in Ilesa, with a reception scheduled to follow at the premises of Ilesa Grammar School. The event has attracted dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond.

In preparation for the high-profile event, the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other security agencies have deployed operatives to ensure the smooth running of the ceremony and maintain public order.

The coronation marks a significant cultural milestone for Ijesaland, as Oba Haastrup assumes the traditional throne as the new paramount ruler of the ancient kingdom.

The presence of political heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar underscores the importance of traditional institutions in Nigeria's socio-political landscape, where politicians often maintain close relationships with traditional rulers who wield significant influence in their domains.
