Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi has officially announced his departure from English Championship side West Bromwich Albion after spending six years with the club.
The 31-year-old Nigerian international was released by the Baggies this week as his contract is set to expire at the end of June, bringing an end to his time at the Hawthorns since joining from Rotherham United in 2019.
Ajayi took to Instagram to express his gratitude to the club, writing: "Thank you to everyone connected with @WBA for an incredible six years. To the staff, my teammates, and the fans — thank you for accepting me and embracing me in a way that truly made me feel at home."
During his tenure with West Bromwich Albion, the Arsenal Academy graduate made 177 appearances across all competitions, contributing 13 goals and three assists. Ajayi became a fan favorite at the club and played a significant role in their defensive setup over the years.
The Nigerian defender's departure comes as part of West Brom's post-season restructuring, which reportedly includes offering new contracts to three Nigerian forwards at the club.
Ajayi, who has been a regular fixture in the Super Eagles squad, will now be looking for a new challenge as he enters the next phase of his career as a free agent. His experience in English football and international pedigree is likely to attract interest from clubs both in England and abroad.
