Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Pastor Sam Adeyemi, has expressed deep concern over what he describes as a lack of empathy and compassion among Nigerian leaders, stating that many have lost touch with the harsh realities faced by ordinary citizens.
Speaking on Thursday as a guest on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily programme, Adeyemi highlighted how the country's leadership appears more focused on retaining power than addressing the needs of Nigerians.
"Some of our leaders, it is even obvious from the way they speak, that they have lost touch with the reality of the poor, they have no empathy, no compassion," Adeyemi stated during the interview.
The respected cleric emphasized the need to create an environment that enables leaders to guide citizens in the right direction and make decisions that genuinely benefit the populace.
Adeyemi also addressed the recent wave of political defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting that fear of losing electoral positions rather than ideological alignment drives these moves.
"Some of them are being threatened that they would lose their next election, that is why they are defecting. So their own survival is being threatened," he explained.
The pastor's comments come at a time when Nigeria continues to face significant socio-economic challenges, with many citizens expressing dissatisfaction with the government's response to issues including inflation, insecurity, and unemployment.
Adeyemi, known for his leadership teachings and social commentary, has consistently advocated for more responsive and responsible governance in Nigeria.
