Three individuals, including a 12-year-old boy, were injured when operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) opened fire during an attempted arrest in Bauchi State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday in Tudun Wada village, Liman-Katagum Local Government Area, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama who reported the event on his official X handle on Thursday.
Reports indicate that an NSCDC patrol team from Alkaleri Local Government Area had visited the village to make an arrest when a confrontation erupted between the security operatives and local residents. During the altercation, the NSCDC personnel allegedly discharged their weapons, resulting in injuries to three people.
Two adults identified as Hamza Sarkin Aska and Jibrin Adamu, both residents of Tudun Wada, sustained gunshot wounds to their legs. The third victim, 12-year-old Umar Rabiu, an Almajiri from Yola Doka village, suffered bruises on his right leg.
Security personnel quickly intervened following the incident and evacuated all three injured individuals to General Hospital Yuguda for medical attention. Hospital officials confirmed that Sarkin Aska and Adamu were admitted and are currently responding to treatment, while the young boy has been treated and discharged.
The Bauchi State Police Command has reportedly launched an investigation into the shooting incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and ensure accountability for the actions of the security operatives involved.
This incident comes amid growing concerns about the conduct of security agencies during civilian interactions across Nigeria. Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the specific reasons for the attempted arrest that led to the confrontation.
