The coalition of opposition figures planning to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election has officially denied reports that it has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform.

Salihu Lukman, spokesperson for the coalition, issued a statement on Thursday in Abuja dismissing claims that the opposition elements led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had settled on ADC as their vehicle for the upcoming election.

"The public should disregard the story, as it is completely false. No such decision has been taken. Also false is the report that the coalition has adopted the ADC at its meeting of Tuesday, May 20, 2025," Lukman stated.

The statement also refuted reports that Lukman, a former Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had been appointed as Head of Secretariat for the coalition.

According to Lukman, negotiations among coalition leaders are progressing well, with final decisions about the political platform for the 2027 election expected to be announced soon.

"Unfortunately, there appear to be some mischief makers promoting and planting stories in the media with the clear aim of sowing seeds of discord among coalition leaders. The public and the media should please disregard all these mischievous stories," he emphasized.

Lukman assured that once negotiations are concluded, the coalition leaders would make a formal announcement regarding their plans for the 2027 presidential election.

The coalition, reportedly including key opposition figures, is part of efforts to present a united front against President Tinubu in the next general election.
