The Progressive Governors Forum has officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu as their sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election. The announcement came during the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday.
The endorsement was moved by the forum's chairman, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, and seconded by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, demonstrating strong unity among APC governors in support of Tinubu's bid for a second term in office.
Speaking on behalf of the forum, Governor Uzodimma emphasized their commitment to mobilizing resources and ensuring victory for President Tinubu in their respective states. The governors expressed confidence in Tinubu's leadership and ongoing reforms, pledging to deliver their states in the upcoming elections.
"We are fully committed to ensuring President Tinubu's victory in 2027. His leadership and reforms have set Nigeria on the path to prosperity, and we will mobilize all necessary resources to secure his re-election," Uzodimma stated.
This endorsement follows similar moves by other APC regional leaders, including North Central governors who recently passed a vote of confidence in Tinubu's administration, praising his developmental initiatives and inclusive governance approach.
The timing of this endorsement is significant as it comes amid coalition moves by opposition figures, including former PDP Presidential aspirant Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who are reportedly aligning with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Political analysts view the Progressive Governors Forum's backing as a strategic move to consolidate Tinubu's position as the APC's flagbearer for 2027, potentially deterring internal challengers and strengthening party unity ahead of the election cycle.
The APC National Summit, which is currently underway, is being attended by President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and other key party stakeholders.
