A 72-year-old man, Anayinwa Daniel, appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates' Court in Lagos on Thursday facing charges of breaking into a house and causing property damage.

The defendant is facing a four-count charge including conduct likely to cause breach of peace, assault, and malicious damage. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

According to Prosecutor Inspector Adegeshin Famuyiwa, the incident occurred on February 2, 2025, at approximately 10:00 am at James Daniel Street in Olorunshogo Community, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The prosecution alleged that Daniel conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by unlawfully jumping over a fence and breaking two padlocks securing rooms belonging to the complainant, Mr. James Daniel.

Further allegations indicate that the defendant destroyed a CCTV camera valued at N150,000 and damaged an SUV with registration number KKH 596 AA, causing an estimated loss of N400,000 to the complainant.

The prosecutor also stated that on February 24, 2024, at the same location, the defendant allegedly assaulted the complainant by hitting him with a large stone on his chest, causing bodily harm.

According to Famuyiwa, the offences contravene Sections 350, 168(D), 245, and 350 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

Magistrate A.O. Ogbe granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case has been adjourned until June 5 for further mention.
