A 23-year-old woman, Abigail Victor, has been arraigned before a Kaduna Magistrate's Court on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend with a knife during a dispute.
The defendant, a resident of Ungwan Sunday in Kaduna, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and causing injury following the incident that occurred on May 17 at Sabon Tasha, Kaduna.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, Victor allegedly conspired with two accomplices, who are currently at large, to assault her boyfriend, Dominic James. The prosecution claims that during the attack, she stabbed James in the shoulder with a knife.
Inspector Leo told the court that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding where Victor accused her boyfriend of infidelity. "In the process, she called two of her friends who came to the complainant's house, beat him up and stabbed him," the prosecutor stated.
The victim was rescued by neighbours who intervened and rushed him to a hospital for treatment.
The prosecution noted that the offences contravene Sections 58 and 284 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017. If found guilty, Section 58 carries a one-year prison term, while Section 284 attracts a prison sentence of not less than five years.
Victor has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum. The court stipulated that the surety must be a blood relation to the defendant and must present three years of tax clearance issued by the Kaduna State Government.
The case has been adjourned until June 17 for hearing.
