The Gombe State Police Command has arrested 25 suspects in connection with a violent attack on CSP Adamu Alhaji-Idi, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kwadon Division. The assault occurred on Tuesday while the officer was performing his duties in Kwadon town.
According to DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Police Public Relations Officer who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, the DPO was attacked by a group of suspected miscreants locally known as 'Kalare'. The officer sustained serious injuries, including a deep wound to his forehead, and was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
"A distress call was received around 9:00 a.m. from the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, alerting the Command of the brutal assault on the DPO," Abdullahi explained. In swift response, a team of patrol officers from Operation Hattara, led by CSP Ali Madaki, was immediately deployed to the scene.
Following coordinated tactical operations, all 25 suspects, residents of Kwadon town, were apprehended and are currently in police custody undergoing investigation. The police spokesman assured that upon completion of investigations, the suspects would be charged to court accordingly.
CP Bello Yahaya, the Commissioner of Police, accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, visited Kwadon to assess the situation firsthand. During the visit, the CP commiserated with officers on the ground and reassured the community of the Command's determination to tackle criminality without compromise.
The Command has emphasized its zero-tolerance policy toward violence against police officers. "The police will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law upon anyone found guilty of disrupting public peace or endangering the lives of law enforcement officers," Abdullahi stated.
He further urged residents of Kwadon and the wider Gombe State community to remain law-abiding and cooperate fully with the police during the ongoing investigation, adding that "the era of attacking security personnel with impunity is over."
The Command has assured the public that it will ensure justice is served and peace is maintained throughout the state.
