The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-East stakeholders have firmly rejected a meeting held at the Enugu State Government House under the leadership of factional National Vice Chairman, Chief Ali Odefa, declaring all decisions reached at the gathering null and void.
At a meeting convened in Abuja on Tuesday by the new National Vice Chairman of the PDP South-East zone, Hon. Chidiebere Goodluck Egwu, the stakeholders reaffirmed their support for Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the party.
The gathering was attended by prominent party leaders from the region, including former Abia State Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, Senator Michael Amah Nnachi, Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu, Rt. Hon Jones Onyeriri, and the PDP Chairmen of Imo and Abia states, among others.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the stakeholders reiterated their call for the National Working Committee (NWC) to comply with the Supreme Court ruling that "explicitly reaffirmed the position of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the party."
The stakeholders unanimously urged the NWC and the general public to disregard the meeting convened by Odefa, whom they described as "expelled." They also called for immediate conduct of congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra States, which currently lack valid State Working Committees.
The communiqué referenced several court judgments that affirmed the suspension and subsequent expulsion of Ali Odefa as the National Vice Chairman of the PDP South-East. The stakeholders directed the Zonal Working Committee to initiate "Contempt of Court" proceedings against the former zonal chairman.
In a move toward reconciliation, the stakeholders encouraged all party members and leaders to support the Senator Bukola Saraki-led reconciliation committee in mediating the ongoing leadership crisis "in the interest of the survival of the party."
This development highlights the deepening factional crisis within the PDP's South-East chapter, as different groups continue to claim legitimacy in the party's leadership structure.
