Public commentator Reno Omokri has strongly criticized former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai over recent comments regarding President Bola Tinubu and the 2027 presidential elections.

El-Rufai recently confirmed the formation of a political coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, stating that their primary objective was to "ensure that President Tinubu goes back to Lagos."

In response, Omokri took to Facebook to condemn El-Rufai's statement, suggesting that the coalition is driven by selfish interests rather than a genuine desire to improve Nigeria's conditions.

"Look at what Nasir El-Rufai said and ask yourself whether it makes sense: 'You can imagine. The coalition they are planning with Peter Obi is, in his own words, to ensure that President Tinubu goes back to Lagos,'" Omokri wrote.

He further criticized the coalition's apparent priorities, stating: "Not to improve Nigeria. Not to grow our economy. Not to fight Boko Haram. But to 'ensure that President Tinubu goes back to Lagos.'"

Omokri went on to make serious allegations against El-Rufai, claiming that the coalition's intention is to remove Tinubu so they can "resume killing Southern Kaduna people and other Northern minorities, as they did under Nasir El-Rufai, the Butcher of Kaduna."

El-Rufai's confirmation of the coalition suggests potential alignment with opposition figures including Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential elections, signaling early political maneuvering in Nigeria's electoral landscape.

This development comes as various political groups begin positioning themselves for the next electoral cycle, with the Benue NASS APC Caucus reportedly adopting President Tinubu as their sole candidate for 2027.
