Former Al-Nassr manager, Luis Castro, has publicly criticized Erik ten Hag over his management of Cristiano Ronaldo during their time together at Manchester United, suggesting the Dutch coach failed to properly utilize the Portuguese star.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Castro, who worked closely with Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, questioned Ten Hag's decision to sideline the five-time Ballon d'Or winner at Old Trafford.

"We look at each player and we adjust things. We adjust according to their identity," Castro explained. "That is exactly what I do – with Cristiano and with everyone else. That is my duty as a leader, as a coach."

The 65-year-old tactician added: "I cannot stick rigidly to a tactical system and refuse to change."

Ronaldo's tenure at Manchester United under Ten Hag was marked by controversy, with the Portuguese star often relegated to the bench. The former Ajax manager reportedly believed Ronaldo was too old and unable to execute the high-pressing style he wanted to implement.

The situation deteriorated to the point where Ronaldo's contract was terminated by mutual consent in 2022 following a breakdown in their relationship, after which he joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.

Castro's comments highlight the contrasting management styles between himself and Ten Hag, with the Portuguese coach advocating for tactical flexibility to accommodate star players like Ronaldo.

The former Al-Nassr manager enjoyed a positive relationship with Ronaldo during their time together in Saudi Arabia, where his approach of tailoring tactics to suit individual players' strengths appeared to yield better results with the veteran forward.
