Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has assented to five transformative bills designed to enhance the state's justice system, education, healthcare, water resources, and transportation sectors.
The Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Nasiru Mua'zu, announced this development during a press conference held in Minna on Wednesday, emphasizing that these newly signed laws are pivotal to the state's development agenda.
Among the bills signed into law is the establishment of a new Penal Code for Niger State, which will provide a comprehensive framework for criminal justice administration. Mua'zu clarified that the law would apply only to crimes committed after its enactment, ensuring fair and impartial justice delivery.
"The Penal Code Law will provide a framework for the administration of criminal justice in the state," Mua'zu explained.
Another significant bill assented to by Governor Bago repeals the Niger State College of Education Law of 2011, re-establishing and renaming the institution as Dr. Umaru Sanda Ahmadu College of Education, Minna.
The governor also approved legislation establishing an agency for the registration and regulation of private health facilities in Niger State, a move expected to enhance healthcare standards across the state.
The remaining two bills focus on infrastructure development: the Niger State Water User Association Law 2025, which aims to regulate water sources and ensure their safety, and the establishment of the Niger State Rail-Line Corporation, which will oversee transportation infrastructure development.
According to the Commissioner for Justice, these legislative actions demonstrate Governor Bago's commitment to improving the quality of life for Niger State residents through strategic institutional reforms.
"The laws are expected to have positive impacts on the state's development, promoting justice, education, healthcare, water resources management, and transportation," Mua'zu stated.
The bills, which were previously passed by the Niger State House of Assembly, are part of the administration's broader strategy to create a more robust institutional framework for governance and development in the state.
