Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi has expressed confidence that Nigeria's U-20 team will deliver an improved performance at the upcoming 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

The Nigerian team recently secured a bronze medal at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Egypt, finishing third after losing 1-0 to eventual champions South Africa in the semi-finals before defeating the host nation 4-1 on penalties in the third-place playoff.

"We know where we need to do better — especially in front of goal. The coaching crew and the players are on the same page, and we're determined to get it right," Bameyi stated. "The World Cup is a big stage, and we'll be ready."

The centre-back also dedicated their AFCON bronze medal to supporters and loved ones who backed the team throughout the tournament.

"This bronze is for the fans, our families, and everyone who stood by us. But we're not done yet. There's more to come from this team," he added.

The Flying Eagles, coached by Aliyu Zubairu, secured their World Cup qualification by reaching the semi-finals of the continental tournament. Their third-place finish has boosted confidence ahead of the global competition in Chile, where they aim to improve on their attacking prowess.

Bameyi, who was included in the team of the tournament at the U-20 AFCON, will be expected to lead the Nigerian squad as they prepare for the World Cup challenge later this year.
