Veteran journalist Jimi Disu has issued a strong warning to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, advising him against accepting any vice presidential offer from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

Speaking on Nigerian Info FM 99.3, Disu described the vice presidential position as a "spare tyre" that lacks constitutional powers, cautioning Obi about the political risks involved in such an arrangement.

"What is being said is that Peter Obi is being offered the Vice presidential slot because of Atiku from the North," Disu stated. "It's all nice for Atiku but one thing I will tell Peter Obi is that a Vice President is a spare tyre and you are dealing with a seasoned politician."

The veteran journalist questioned whether Obi could trust Atiku not to sideline him if they were to win the presidency. "It's left to you to know if you can trust this man not to throw you to the dustbin by the time he becomes the president," he added.

Disu's comments come amid reports that Obi had agreed to be Atiku's running mate in ongoing coalition discussions ahead of future elections. However, Obi has denied these reports, clarifying that his involvement in the coalition is focused on fighting bad governance, poverty, and other challenges facing Nigerians.

"If I were Obi, I would not risk it because it doesn't make sense because the constitution does not provide anything for you statutorily," Disu emphasized, highlighting the limited powers of the vice presidential office in Nigeria's political structure.

The journalist also referenced past vice presidential experiences in Nigeria, suggesting that the role could potentially diminish Obi's political influence rather than enhance it.

This development comes as political realignments continue ahead of future electoral contests, with various opposition figures exploring potential coalitions to challenge the ruling party.
