APC chieftain and youth advocate, Comrade Isaac Balami, has strongly condemned what he described as "constant attacks" on Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, stating that such attacks should be viewed as an affront on Nigerian youths and the less privileged.
Balami specifically referenced a recent video showing Seyi Tinubu accompanying his father to Rome for the Pope's inauguration, which sparked controversy on social media. According to the APC chieftain, the narrative surrounding the video was deliberately constructed to disparage the younger Tinubu.
"From the video, it is clear that Seyi Tinubu was only going to join his dad after the handshake and was simply directed to meet him on the other exit as they were about to exit the place. How someone will just sit down to initiate this narrative is beyond me," Balami stated.
The former Trade Union Congress (TUC) spokesman urged Nigerian youths to stand against individuals allegedly contracted to construct negative narratives about Seyi Tinubu despite his "good intentions." He criticized what he termed as the "Pull Him Down syndrome" in Nigerian politics, where individuals gaining popularity become targets.
"I don't know why some people are only interested in pulling someone down so as to gain relevance. One doesn't need to disparage someone or manipulate narratives to succeed," he said.
Balami recalled several instances of what he described as "online bullying" against Seyi Tinubu, including an incident involving a factional President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) who later apologized.
The APC chieftain suggested that Seyi Tinubu's growing popularity and rumored political ambitions for the Lagos governorship might be behind the attacks. "I believe the growing popularity of Mr. Tinubu whom it has been suggested is eyeing the governorship seat in Lagos in the next election has been giving some people sleepless nights," he remarked.
Praising Seyi Tinubu's character, Balami described him as a role model for young Nigerians based on his "responsible lifestyle" and commitment to youth development through his foundation.
"While Seyi is investing in Nigerian youths through his numerous positive engagements, mischief makers are rather investing in media propaganda to discourage the good young man," Balami concluded.
