Nigeria's Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, has extended an invitation to former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a feature interview for an upcoming State House documentary marking President Bola Tinubu's second anniversary, Umahi emphasized that all governors in the Southeast region are currently supporting the Tinubu administration, regardless of their political affiliations.
"I call on my brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, to join us and work with Mr. President," Umahi stated. "He must be part of this summit where we will collectively endorse President Tinubu for the 2027 election. I say it boldly: the South East is happy with the President."
The Minister highlighted the significant infrastructure development the Southeast region has experienced under President Tinubu's leadership, noting that concerns about marginalization have diminished considerably.
"The Igbo man is enterprising and blessed with God-given wisdom. What Ndi Igbo seek is fairness, a Nigeria that treats every zone equally. That is what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing," Umahi explained.
He further revealed plans for a summit that would bring together all Southeast leaders to formally endorse President Tinubu for the 2027 elections, emphasizing the desire for completed projects, strengthened national unity, and proper integration of the Igbo people.
Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Progress
In the same interview, Umahi provided updates on major national infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. He revealed that over 80 percent of Section 1 of the highway—spanning 47.47 kilometers from Ahmadu Bello Way to the Lekki Deep Sea Port and terminating at Eleko Junction—has been completed.
"By December, we will toll Section 1 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. We project a 10-year return on investment," Umahi disclosed. "The road has solar-powered lighting and CCTV infrastructure and offers carbon credit advantages."
Work is also progressing on Section 2, covering 55 kilometers from Eleko Junction to the Lagos-Ogun border. The Minister noted that they have completed 30 kilometers of Section 1 and are on track to complete an additional 10 kilometers in Section 2.
Umahi also mentioned the recent flag-off of Sections 3 and 3B, totaling 65 kilometers—38 kilometers in Cross River State and 27 kilometers in Akwa Ibom State.
The Minister described these infrastructure projects as "transformative investments designed to unlock Nigeria's economic potential and deepen regional integration," emphasizing that they are "more than roads—they are economic corridors and catalysts for regional growth."
