West Bromwich Albion have officially announced that Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi will leave the club when his contract expires next month, bringing an end to his five-year stint with the Championship side.

The English club confirmed this development on Tuesday as part of their retained and released list following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

Ajayi, 31, joined West Brom from Rotherham United in 2019 and made 177 appearances for the Baggies, scoring 13 goals during his time at The Hawthorns. His tenure included memorable goals against Premier League giants Liverpool and Wolves.

The Nigerian international endured an injury-plagued final season with the club, missing 29 Championship matches due to fitness issues, which likely influenced the decision not to renew his contract.

While Ajayi departs, West Brom have shown faith in Nigerian talent at the academy level by offering new contracts to three forwards of Nigerian descent – Dan Chimeziri, Eseosa Sule, and Divine Onyemachi.

The Super Eagles defender's next destination remains unknown as he enters the summer transfer window as a free agent, potentially attracting interest from clubs both in England and abroad.

Ajayi's departure marks the end of an era for the Nigerian at West Brom, where he established himself as a reliable defender in both the Championship and during the club's time in the Premier League.
