Nigerian workers under the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) staged a protest on Tuesday at the Federal Ministry of Finance headquarters in Abuja, demanding the payment of outstanding allowances and other emoluments.
The demonstrators, carrying placards highlighting their grievances related to unpaid financial entitlements, disrupted activities at the ministry premises but declined to speak with media representatives at the scene.
A civil servant employed at the ministry, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that access to the building had been significantly affected by the protest action.
"You can see that our office has been blocked. We don't even know the full reason yet," the staff member stated when approached for comment.
As of the time of this report, the Federal Ministry of Finance had not issued any official statement addressing the protest or responding to the specific demands raised by the TUC workers.
The demonstration comes amid growing concerns about the welfare of public sector workers and delays in payment of various entitlements across federal institutions.
Labour unions have increasingly voiced frustration over what they describe as the government's failure to honor financial commitments to workers, particularly in the face of rising inflation and economic challenges facing Nigerian households.
