The Imo State Government has issued a directive requiring all ministries, departments, and agencies to forward comprehensive details of government assets, including stocks in their custody, to the office of the Commissioner for Finance, Chuck Chuckwuemeka.
This directive emerged from decisions reached during the weekly State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Hope Uzodinma.
According to information released after the meeting, the Finance Ministry is working to consolidate all government assets under the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFIN) as part of preparations for the state's entry into the stock market.
Infrastructure Development Continues Despite Rainy Season
Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, who briefed journalists after the session, revealed that the state government is continuing its road construction initiatives despite the ongoing rainy season.
"Many of these roads have been completed and are waiting for commissioning," Emelumba stated, adding that the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Development, Barr Ralph Nwosu, has been directed to arrange for the commissioning of completed road projects.
The Executive Council has also approved contracts for 17 new roads, including the construction of the Imo Internal Revenue Service office. These road projects will be distributed across all three zones of the state: Owerri, Okigwe, and Orlu.
Roads receiving priority attention despite the rainy season include the Ihiala–Banana Junction Road, Orlu–Akokwa Road, and Owerri–Umuahia Road, among others.
Staff Reassignment Directive
In addition to the asset consolidation initiative, the Executive Council has ordered the immediate reassignment of staff from the Imo State Housing Corporation and the Imo State Hospital Management Board to their parent ministries.
This comprehensive restructuring appears to be part of broader administrative reforms being implemented by the Uzodinma administration.
