A man identified as Esosa Imasuen has allegedly beaten his wife, Chinwedu Nnadozie, to death following a domestic dispute in Benin City, Edo State.
The incident reportedly occurred at Oza Street in the Ogbelaka area of the Sakponba road axis of the state capital, where the couple resided with their three children.
According to sources close to the family, Imasuen assaulted his wife during a misunderstanding, inflicting severe injuries that led to internal bleeding. The victim was rushed to a hospital for treatment, where doctors diagnosed her with internal hemorrhaging resulting from the beating.
The father of the deceased, Everistus Nnadoze, told reporters that he received a call informing him that his son-in-law had beaten his daughter, leaving her with serious injuries. By the time he attempted to reach the hospital, Chinwedu had already succumbed to her injuries.
"They said he took her to the hospital where a doctor was said to have carried out some tests on her, and the result showed that she has internal bleeding," Nnadoze explained. "She later gave up the ghost at the hospital before I could reach her."
In a disturbing twist, Nnadoze revealed that he was unable to see his daughter's corpse as Imasuen allegedly took the body to an undisclosed mortuary alone. "I went to his house, they said he had absconded," he added.
The grieving father said he has been repeatedly calling his son-in-law to reveal the location of his daughter's remains, but Imasuen has not responded or shown up.
When contacted, the Edo State Police Command spokesperson stated that they had reached out to multiple police stations in Benin City, but none had received a formal report about the incident.
This case highlights the ongoing issue of domestic violence in Nigeria, where victims often suffer in silence until situations escalate to fatal outcomes.
Authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the matter as more details emerge about the whereabouts of both the suspect and the victim's remains.
