Former Nigerian Minister of Education, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, has announced her acceptance of an invitation to serve as an Advisor to Club de Madrid, an organization she described as "the world's largest forum of democratic former Presidents and Prime Ministers."
Ezekwesili made the announcement via her X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, expressing her enthusiasm about the new international appointment.
According to her statement, Club de Madrid brings together former democratic leaders who "leverage their individual and collective leadership experience and global reach to strengthen inclusive democratic practice and improve the well-being of people around the world."
"As our global context becomes even more complex, the leadership vacuum delays solutions to 'global public Bads'," Ezekwesili noted in her post. "I therefore deeply appreciate how these former leaders of democracies around the world continue to dedicate themselves to helping solve our global challenges and amplify opportunities for cooperation."
The former minister, who has maintained an active voice in Nigeria's political and social discourse, expressed delight at the opportunity to support the organization's mission.
Ezekwesili has held several high-profile positions throughout her career, including serving as Nigeria's Minister of Education and Minister of Solid Minerals. She was also a Vice President at the World Bank and has been a vocal advocate for good governance and transparency in Nigeria.
This latest appointment adds to her growing list of international engagements aimed at promoting democratic values and addressing global challenges.
