Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has predicted that Tottenham Hotspur will emerge victorious over Manchester United in the upcoming Europa League final scheduled for Wednesday at the Athletic Bilbao Stadium.

Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Shearer expressed confidence in Spurs' chances, citing their impressive record against the Red Devils this season as a key factor.

"Who would you say are favourites? Tottenham because of their record against Manchester United this season?" Shearer remarked before making his bold prediction: "My prediction is 2-2 or 3-3 after extra-time and Tottenham to win on penalties."

The Premier League legend acknowledged that both teams have struggled in their domestic campaign this season. However, Tottenham's head-to-head advantage over Manchester United appears to have influenced his forecast.

Spurs have dominated their encounters with United this season, securing a league double with 3-0 and 1-0 victories, while also eliminating them from the EFL Cup with a thrilling 4-3 win in the quarter-finals.

Despite finishing 17th in the Premier League, Tottenham could still qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League if they lift the Europa League trophy. The London club reached the final after overcoming Bodo/Glimt in the semi-finals.

Manchester United, meanwhile, secured their place in the final by defeating Lyon in their semi-final tie.

The highly anticipated final will take place at San Mames in Bilbao on Wednesday, with both teams eager to salvage their seasons with European silverware.
