The Delta State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its fight against crime with the arrest of two suspected armed robbers along the Asaba-Benin Expressway.
According to a statement from the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) apprehended the suspects during a routine stop and search operation on May 15, 2025, at approximately 6:30 am.
The suspects, identified as 49-year-old Blessing Ngbajime and 27-year-old Okpako Oghenovo, were traveling in a Jetta vehicle with registration number ASB18BH when they were flagged down by the police team.
"Upon search of the vehicle and the occupants, one fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered from Okpako Oghenovo," CP Abaniwonda stated in the release.
The police commissioner further revealed that the suspects are currently undergoing profiling and interrogation as investigations continue into their activities and possible connections to other crimes in the region.
This arrest comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Delta State Police Command to combat armed robbery and cultism in the state, with the Rapid Response Squad playing a crucial role in these operations.
The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide useful information that could lead to the arrest of criminal elements within the state.
Further updates on the case are expected as the investigation progresses.
